The Department of Power Supply hosts the scientific school Energy Management of Intelligent Energy-Efficient (Smart Grid) Power Supply Systems. Its work connects power engineering, energy efficiency and the management of electricity generation, distribution and consumption.
Origins and development
The school was founded by Professor Artur Prakhovnyk (1940–2012), Doctor of Technical Sciences. His research covered energy system modelling, automated control, forecasting, electricity consumption optimisation, energy management and sustainable energy development. He headed the Department of Power Supply from 1988 and the Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management from 1997 to 2012.
In 2013, Professor Serhii Denysiuk succeeded the founder as head of the school. Research developed further in the areas of energy security, energy efficiency, smart power supply systems and active electricity consumers.

Research achievements
The school’s historical achievements include microprocessor-based automated energy management systems and scientific support for Ukrainian energy conservation legislation, national energy strategies and regional energy efficiency programmes.
Research projects have addressed flexible power supply system optimisation, aggregation and control of virtual power plants, intelligent integrated systems with active consumers and multi-agent energy systems. Results are reflected in scientific publications, educational materials, engineering developments and researcher training.
Education and researcher training
The school’s research supports Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in power supply and energy management, the research-oriented Master’s programme in energy management and electrical complexes, and doctoral training. Current programme documents are available in the study programme catalogue.
