A master’s dissertation is the final stage of a master’s degree programme. Writing it develops research and analytical skills. Its main purpose is to demonstrate the graduate’s ability to conduct research on a specific topic, investigate a problem independently and in depth, and synthesise the knowledge acquired during the programme.
Final state attestation is a compulsory part of the core master’s programme. It assesses graduates’ professional training in speciality 141 “Electric Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electromechanics” and includes the defence of a final qualification work.
The final qualification work for a master’s programme, submitted as a dissertation, must be an independent, completed theoretical, research or applied study addressing a relevant scientific, technical or other problem in the speciality (design and calculation, organisation and management, research or teaching).
A dissertation for an educational and professional master’s programme must focus on developing a physical or conceptual design object — a system in the broad sense, a device, a technological process, a computer programme, etc. — that best meets the design specifications. A section developing a start-up project is compulsory.
A research-oriented master’s student’s tasks involve research; the dissertation must therefore present a study of new theoretical or applied issues relevant to the programme.
