On 19 May 2026, a public lecture was held online by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bernd Ponick, one of the directors of the Institute of Drive Systems and Power Electronics at Leibniz University Hannover, on the topic:
“The Role of Power Electronics and Drive Systems in Modern All-Electric and All-Digital Society”.
The event was organised as part of the DAAD project “Mechatronics, Energy, Robotics and Innovative Technologies with Ukraine” (MERIT-Ukraine) with the participation of partners from Ukraine and Germany.
Over 60 participants attended the lecture, including students from the Power Supply Department at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, as well as lecturers and young researchers interested in current trends in the development of electrical systems, power electronics and electric drives.
During the lecture, Professor Bernd Ponik highlighted the role of power electronics and drive systems in the development of the modern digital society, particularly in the context of transport electrification, the integration of renewable energy sources, automation and improving energy efficiency.
Particular attention was paid to current scientific challenges and prospects for international cooperation in the fields of energy and electrical engineering. As the head of the MERIT-Ukraine project, Professor Ponik also highlighted research topics that hold the greatest promise for future collaboration between Ukrainian and German researchers.
Holding such events contributes to the development of international academic cooperation, the expansion of scientific contacts and the involvement of students in current research on modern energy technologies.
