In July 2026, students from the Power Supply Department of the Educational and Research Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management (IEE) at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute – Kateryna Kononenko (group GN-31) and Tymofii Stulii (group GE-31) – participated in a summer training at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg). The training lasted from 6 to 31 July and took place as part of the Joint Ukrainian-German Centre programme.
The training programme included sessions in the university’s state-of-the-art laboratories and work with laboratory equipment in the following fields: acoustics and ultrasound, measurement technology and metrology, vector control of electric motors, metals processing, and fuel cells. In one of their chosen areas, the students prepared a report, presented the results of their work and discussed them with lecturers from the University of Magdeburg.
For Tymofii Stulii, working with the test bench to study asynchronous motors was particularly interesting. The students assembled ‘star’ and ’triangle’ connection circuits and investigated the motor’s operation in normal and emergency modes.
“During this training, I gained new theoretical knowledge and practical experience, which complemented my studies at KPI. In addition to professional knowledge, the training allowed me to get to know Germany, its university environment and culture. I want to use the knowledge I have gained in my further education and professional career,” says Tymofii Stulii, sharing his impressions.
Students spent their free time exploring Magdeburg and other German cities, including a visit to Berlin.
Information: The Joint Ukrainian-German Centre has been operating at the Igor Sikorsky KPI since 2002. In 2022, IEE students joined the programme; alongside their main studies in bachelor’s degree programmes, they are undertaking an in-depth study of the German language.
